Bas van Koolwijk

Delay Line Memory

Bas van Koolwijk uses both sound and image, be it analogue or in numerical code, as interchangeable data. He produces audio-visual compositions in which both manifestations powerfully interact. His works can often be seen as an attack on the illusion of the medium itself.

Delay Line Memory is a fully improvised audio-visual interplay between man and machine, in an attempt to find a common language in electronic sound, rhythm and colour.

Rosa Menkman – Visuals

11 Feb : Kunstblock / TEC ART opening party

21:30 – 3:00 | free entrance

Rosa Menkman is an artist and theorist who focuses on visual noise artifacts, resulting from accidents in both analogue and digital media (such as glitch, encoding and feedback artifacts). Although many people perceive these accidents as negative experiences, Menkman emphasizes their positive consequences: these artifacts facilitate an important insight into the otherwise obscure alchemy of standardization via resolutions: the creation of solutions or protocols, and their black-boxed, unseen, forgotten or obfuscated compromises and alternative possibilities.

‘False Awakenings’ is a blend of abstract rhythmical patterns, evolving ambient
landscapes and detailed sound design. Audible generative structures provide the
canvas for a visual interpretation of time – motion and memory. As a measure of
disorder an immersive audiovisual world is created, a temporal construct of bass,
light and colour.

Valery Vermeulen

11 Feb : Kunstblock / TEC ART opening party

21:30 – 3:00 | free entrance

The financial crisis or astrophysical data streams and models as main sources for interactive electronic musical projects. This is the main setup of the work of mathematician, musician and multi media artist Valery Vermeulen (BE). With the live set at TEC ART 2016 he investigates various connections between the financial industry, astrophysics and the world of music composition and performance. In exploring these connections focus is set on two different approaches. In the first approach new ways are sought to transform several mathematical tools stemming from the financial industry (such as financial risk models, (high frequency) trading algorithms) into new tools for music creation. The work of pioneering artist I. Xenakis servers here as a starting point. In the second approach data sonification techniques are developed to transform vast amounts of data coming from (deep) space, or the financial markets into sound and music.

Get ready to be immersed into a sound trip directed by the hidden worlds that both deep space and the various black pools from the financial industry incorporate.

Rotterdam based synthesist OSC1899 is collecting and playing synthesizers since 2007. “The modular synthesizer will give you the ultimate experience to look at the anatomy of sound to understand what synthesis is.” His setup varies per event and depends on the location, timetable and vibe of the area where he is playing. The music OSC1899 plays can be as best described as deep, groovy and ambient. “I love to melt ambient drones into classic 808 or 909 grooves and let the old machines sing with modern technology which can be found in the newer modular systems.”

Mono-Poly

11 Feb : Kunstblock / TEC ART opening party

21:30 – 3:00 | free entrance

Mono-Poly started expoloring synthesizers since 1994.
Things came and went, and the setup changed over and over and he realized he loved moving knobs and programming more than playing with white and black things on the synthesizers.
Soon the first modular synthesizer followed and that started a never ending story.
Mono-Poly is running a modular event called “Noodlebar”.
This is the spot to play modular synthesizers having artists from all over the world coming over.
